About the Grand Fir, Lowland Fir
Grand Fir is also known as Lowland Fir due to the fact that other firs are more often found at higher altitudes. This stately tree is often found intermixed with Douglas Fir. It is easy to identify from other Firs due to its “two-ranked” needles which grow horizontally on either side of the stem. It can grow to over 100 feet with a spread of 30-40 ft.. Grand Fir likes drier areas like in a rainshadow. It needs good drainage. It can be a good specimen tree in a landscape or used as a Christmas tree.
