About the Sweetgrass
Sweetgrass, Anthoxanthum nitens, also known as Hierochloe odorata, is an Aromatic herb sacred to many tribes. It is used for basketry, smudging, incense, perfume, medicine, to attract good spirits and as a natural mosquito repellent.
Spreads aggressively about 2 feet per year by underground rhizomes.
It grows in wet meadows and marshes, wetlands, prairies, and savannas, sloughs, and along the shores of rivers and lakes. It is considered salt-tolerant.
