About the Streambank Lupine
River or Streambank Lupine (Lupinus rivularis), is one of our Pacific Northwest native perennials. It grows fast to 2-3 feet high and can be a good choice for erosion control. It has lovely blue-purple and white flowers on vertical stems. It can bloom from spring to mid-summer. It prefers full to part sun in well drained soils. It grows in sand or gravel near marshes or streams, gravelly prairies, open woods and other wet places.
This plant is a nitrogen fixer which allows it to grow in less fertile soils. It is considered deer resistant, but can attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.
