About the Brittle Prickly-Pear Cactus
Brittle Prickly Pear Cactus occurs in some of our drier regions in Juniper woodlands, dry open sandy or gravelly soils especially around the Strait of Juan De Fuca, in the San Juan Islands, Vancouver Island and east of the Cascade Mountains. Caution is advised the spines grab you! Segments are easily broken off and can be propagated to make new plants from those pieces. Flowers are yellow, (petals thin, like tissue paper) and showy.
