About the Russet Buffaloberry, Soapberry
This plant is more typically an east-side plant and likes drier habitats. It produces bright red berries used to make “Indian Ice Cream.” The berries are bitter and soapy. Leaves have a whitish silvery felt of hairs and rusty brown spots on their undersides.
It is variously known as Soapberry, Buffaloberry, and Soopolallie.
