About the Shiny Leaf Spirea
Also known as White Spiraea or Birchleaf Spiraea, this plant is more common on the east side of the Cascades. It has flat-topped clusters of white flowers, sometimes tinged with lavender or pink. It grows on streambanks, edges of lakes, meadows and rocky areas. It sometimes hybridizes with Douglas Spiraea; hybrid plant flowers form a slightly pyramidal pink flower cluster.
Along with Subalpine Spiraea, it is one of the few native shrubs that stay fairly small.
